Future China. Chen Xi. Class 1 Grade 8
This year is the 60th anniversary of the founding of modern China by the people of China. Some like to call it our 60th birthday party.
Last night I had a dream. This dream however was not my ordinary kind of dream. This was a special dream that I had. In my dream I wasn’t aware of where I was. Clouds blew towards me with what seemed like messages or questions written on them. When they got close to me I heard strange sounds but they seemed to sound like a human’s voice. “If you can answer these questions then I can make your favorite dream come true” I heard it say. I was so happy and replied by answering the questions quickly. My answers turned out to be correct.
“You have answered correctly” the voice said. What favorite dream do you have that you wish to have come true?” I answered that I wanted to see what China would look like in the future. The next moment I seemed to float away in time into the future.
In the future every family had a home but they were small and no space was wasted. The homes were built away from farmland and watercourses to protect these resources from becoming polluted. People were allowed to keep some pets still like little dogs. Many people would take their small pet dogs for walks. There were new foods available because our scientists had developed new varieties of crops that were now grown. For example pineapples could now be grown in cold locations. As you would know pineapples now grow only in tropical areas. Other types of crops that used to only grow a little now grow high up from the ground.
I tasted some of the new food. One vegetable tasted like apple, pear and watermelon. The people told me that it was a new mixed hybrid vegetable with a mixture of old vegetables in just one new vegetable. I was very happy to see that everyone could afford to eat well. We had stopped eating animals and instead ate insect larvae as out protein source.
Next moment I was in the sky again like a goddess on top of a cloud. I was taken out over Western China to where it used to be desert. Now however there were trees everywhere. At last people have realized that we should take care of the natural environment of china. Soon I see many waterfalls, jungles, valleys, and then I got taken out over the oceans. It was a wonderful journey. The water was clean all over the world. Animals no longer ran away frightened when they saw humans near them. In fact animals that used to be wild and savage now played with us humans. Everywhere was now like a picture out of a dream.
To my great surprise there were no longer public schools that we had to attend and listen to teachers giving us lectures all day every day. Children stayed home and studied on new types of computers. The new e-learning field through contact with an e-teacher via a computer was such a great way to learn. In general a group would study together with one student’s mother present to help with things. There was plenty of time to visit friends and play and enjoy our young lives before becoming adults and starting a career.
China had become the strongest country at this stage in time. Suddenly however the voice told me that it was time for me to return to my own life’s time period on earth. However now I look forward to the future without fear as I used to do.
