Oh gee, I’m an Angel. By JiangYifan Class 15 grade 7
Long, long ago, I was a pretty sweet little girl princess. I had a very kind and loving father. He was the king of the whole of China. He taught me many languages. He also taught me math, science and lots of other subjects. I was one smart little girl for my age. One day I had been reading poems that talked about how beautiful the sea was. I saw colored pictures of this thing called the sea. It looked very beautiful so I wanted to see it for myself. The poem said that the sea was a very beautiful blue color like the sky on a clear summer’s day.
I told my father that I wanted to see this thing that they called the sea. So my father promised to take me there during the summer. My father arranged for many servants to carry us to this far away place where this sea was. Soldiers also came with us to protect us. Much food was carried so we all could eat delicious food. Of course cooks and waiters came also to cook for us and serve us.
After many weeks we arrived at the sea. It was so, so big. And yes it was very, very blue. Our servants started to set up the tents once again. The first tent to be set up of course was for my father and I. Daddy was so tired that all he wanted to do was sleep. So as soon as our tent was made ready he went into it to lie down and sleep. I however couldn’t wait to go and play in the sea.
When I ran down to the beach I saw some peasants pulling what was a small rowboat up out of the water onto the beach. I went straight up to them and offered them some gold coins for their rowboat as I wanted to row out onto the sea. The poor farmers were very happy to take the golden coins in exchange for their rowboat. I got them to push the boat back into the water and then I jumped in and grabbed the oars and rowed out to sea. The water was so beautiful and I could see many big fishes in the water plus a big turtle. I was so lost it all the mystery below me in the water that I did not notice a big storm coming. When I heard some thunder I looked up and saw the huge dark rain clouds with lightning flashing everywhere.
I started to row frantically but strong currents in the water pushed me further out to sea. Then big waves swelled up in the sea and pushed me and my little rowboat back towards the shoreline. The sea was now dark and the waves were huge. I was very, very scared. Then all of a sudden a super big huge wave crashed down on me and my little boat. For a time everything was dark and wet. I felt myself changing. What was happening to me! A second later I was looking down from the sky. I could see my body beside a little smashed up rowboat on the beach.
It came as a very big shock to me as I realized that I had changed into a big White Sea Eagle (A big bird). As I flew around I saw that my father had been brought to where my body was lying washed up on the beach. My father cried for a long time and then took out his sword and committed suicide. My mother whom my father dearly loved had died a year before from a dreadful virus that had killed many of our people. My father saw no reason to go on with his life. All who gave him reason to live were gone. He could not face the great loneliness ahead of him.
I thought the sea had killed me thereby destroying my happy life and in turn caused the death of my loving father. So I started to fly down to the ground and pick up stones and big sticks with my strong feet and fly out and drop them into the sea. I wanted to fill the sea up and take away its power. Every day from early in the morning to when the sun set in the evening I would do this.
The spirit of the sea at first laughed at me and said that I had no ability to win this fight. “You want to fill me up?” “What crazy thinking” I felt dejected when the sea spirit scorned me in this way. However my hatred for what it had brought about was great. Day after day, year after year I kept filling the sea with stones and sticks. The sea spirit started to become afraid of me. It cried out “When will you stop filling me up” “Why do you have such a great hatred for me?” I yelled back, “Because you took my earthly life and caused pain and death to my loving father!”
The great earth spirit was moved by my love for my father and so the earth spirit changed me into an angel. I was given the mission to throw flowers down to earth to bring about peace and love. So now you know my story. So when you smell and see flower petals drifting in the wind remember to love the people around you so that they too might love you in return.
